Entrepreneurs, Do You Miss This Holiday Tradition?
Ahhh . . . The annual Christmas Party. If you ever worked for a business or organization chances are you’ve attended a company Christmas Party. They aren’t known to be the best parties to attend (Long winded speeches by the boss, drunk co-workers, etc.) but at least it was a reason to dress up.
I admit, I got a little nostalgic about this holiday tradition. Now that I work at home there are no co-workers to go to a party with, which got me thinking . . .
Why don’t I host my own virtual holiday party?
So I am. It’s on Facebook. The date is on December 15, 2011 all day long!
There will be giveaways and crazy fun shared on that day. All you need to do is Like the Entrepreneurial Good Life Facebook Page to attend. Dress is casual but if you want to wear a party hat that would be cool.
I promise. No drunk, leacherous co-workers or long boring speeches by any boss is on the agenda. Can I count you in? :)
So to continue this topic I would love to know:
- Do you miss this office tradition or was it a waste of time and money for the company?
- Do you have any funny office party stories to share?

Hi Sherrie,
Fantastic idea ! Count on me for the December 15th Party. I do miss the formal dresses and seeing colleagues on the dance floor. Meeting partners was also good to create more bonds among team members. I don’t think the money was wasted, actually the cost is minimum if you compare with the benefits of having people working together.thanks for organizing the event! Anne

Hi Anne,
Great!! I’ll see you there.
Good point. I don’t think the money is wasted, either. What I want to do is create the same kind of environment for solo entrepreneurs. I’m pretty excited about it.
Sherrie
Looking forward to it!!

I will attend on the 15th as well. Thanks for the invite, Sherie. I might just host a party myself! Great idea! Both my husband and I work from home, for the last 13 years or so, so we’ve been away from office parties for a long, long time. I admit, every other year or so I am jealous of my friends who get to go! Now I will have a reason to dress up again.

Hi Dorien,
Thank you for attending! I know what you mean. It’s time to create our own reasons to dress up and party!

Hi Sherrie from another Sherrie. Yes, I miss the office party. I remember many years ago when we would go to work and change in the ladies room into our evening attire to go to a nice restaurant. It was always a fun night until the men got drunk and well, you know the rest. I would like to attend on the 15th.
Hi Sherrie,
OK, I’ll “see” you on the 15th!
So funny, yes I know what you mean.
Sherrie
Hi Sherrie,
My first time here and upon my first visit you’re mentioning a party! Awesome!! My type of website.
No, but seriously, that’s a wonderful idea! Bloggers are such creative souls. How could anyone not love us?
I haven’t actually worked for a company, come next month, it’ll be 3 years. On top of that, the last job I had was with an airline. Needless to say, their parities were fabulous!!
I do miss that aspect of the holidays. Since then I have been making new traditions of my own, each year it’s has been something different. We’re actually heading to a Christmas party this weekend on vacation. I’m sure we’re going to have a blast. Great post though!

What a hoot! Count me in. And because I dig what you’re up to, I’d like to invite you to consider joining another fun virtual event that happens every month (except this one…holidays are enough) — the Word Carnivals (http://wordcarnivals.com). If you ever thought of running away to join the circus, this might be for you. Let me know and I’ll get you the topic for January.

Hi Sherrie,
Its my first time here from an introduction from Deeone. Isn’t the blogging world great? Through this I get to meet you.
I am excited because, I am also on the edge of starting my business. More accurately, I am positioning my business with blogging now. I am already in business. Right, I think I will get a good chance to read more on entrepreneurship. I hope you will post about how beginnerd like me can be helped. We need the nitty gritty stuff to really get our footing right.
BTW, it has been a long time since I last tasted a Christmas party of any sort. I always find that companies are always willing to splash money on Christmas parties. I guess its for the morale or is there something especially special with Christmas?

As part of the HR team who had to plan the party, I do not miss it. My preference was for the extended departmental lunch at a restaruant of the employees’ choosing, during working hours. Here’s why:
1. Less drunken antics
2. Employees get time away from the office
3. Who doesn’t love free lunch?
4. Doesn’t take time away from your already busy December social calendar, or your families.
5. Smaller groups can lead to better networking, or just “getting to know you” chit chat.
Your virtual party sounds fun. I’ve never attended a virtual party before – might have to try it.

Great! I’m working from home and yes I must admit that I missed those parties, but your idea is great! Hope you had a blast party.
Office parties can be a lot of fun. Glad to know you hosted a virtual party I’m sure lots of your fans attended the party. Office parties is also the time for both the employees and employers to know each other more.
